Lucknow: The Animal Husbandry Department, Uttar Pradesh, has appealed to cattle owners to keep a close watch for possible symptoms of Lumpy Skin Disease (LSD) in their animals and to immediately report any suspicious symptoms to the concerned authorities. The department said timely identification of the disease and prompt control measures would help keep livestock safe.

According to the department, the key symptoms of Lumpy Skin Disease include high fever, round and hard nodules on the skin, discharge from the eyes and nose, excessive salivation, loss of appetite, swelling in the body and legs, reduced milk production, weakness and difficulty in walking. If an animal shows any of these symptoms, owners should immediately isolate the affected animal from other animals and avoid administering any treatment without veterinary advice.

The department has asked cattle owners to promptly report any suspected case to the Chief Veterinary Officer (CVO) office located at the Vikas Bhawan in their district, or to the nearest veterinary hospital. Information can also be shared on the department’s toll-free helpline, 18001805141.

Based on the information received, the Animal Husbandry Department will carry out testing, treatment and the necessary disease-control measures. The department has appealed to cattle owners to keep regular watch over the health of their animals and not to ignore possible symptoms of the disease.
